Close your eyes and drift away. Dream Shift follows the journey of a single night’s sleep, from the first heavy eyelids to the light of morning. Brahms’ “Lullaby” eases us to sleep, and Tchaikovsky’s “Sleeping Beauty Waltz” sweeps us into a beautiful dream. But dreams don’t stay sweet forever. Andrew Boysen’s “Unraveling” pulls the dream apart thread by thread until we fall into a nightmare, set to the dark, frenzied energy of Saint-Saëns’ “Danse Macabre.” Just when it seems there’s no escape, the first rays of sunlight break through with “Here Comes the Sun,” and we wake up safe, refreshed and ready to start the day.
